[FLORA News] Sharing the Featured Article in the June 2025 Issue of the Journal of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers (Constituent Technology 1 – Development of Expandable Modular Floating Structures)

We are pleased to share the featured article published in the June 2025 issue of the Journal of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, authored by FLORA, focusing on Constituent Technology 1: Development of Expandable Modular Floating Structures.

Title: Design Criteria and Structural Development of Expandable Modular Floating Structures

1. Introduction: Due to environmental concerns, excessive construction costs and extended construction periods, as well as civil complaints from local communities, the creation of large-scale reclaimed land at sea has become increasingly difficult. At the same time, demand is growing for offshore space creation using large floating structures to accommodate urban expansion, energy production and storage, and to respond to sea-level rise driven by climate change. Compared to conventional land reclamation methods, floating structures are more environmentally friendly and offer advantages such as flexible land availability based on demand and rapid construction. Since the demonstration of the Mega-Float floating runway project in Japan in 2000, various offshore floating projects have been implemented, including Denmark’s North Sea Energy Island (offshore wind power complex), Saudi Arabia’s OXAGON Project (offshore advanced industrial complex), and the Oceanix Project (floating city development)......
